Fire escapes fascinate me with their functional elegance, art with a noble purpose.
Unfortunately, we are losing these lovely Twentieth-Century buildings. They are being torn down at an alarming rate, replaced with bland modern towers fitted with internal fire stairs. The look of these elegant brick and iron façades will one day be a thing of the past. We have to enjoy them now.
